The Adamawa state primary health care in collaboration with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) with support from DavComs Network has staged a three days capacity building for over 20 experienced Journalists on media advocacy for Family Planning in Adamawa State.
Speaking at the training in Yola, Evelyn John, national master trainer said, the aimed of the training is to equip participants to create awareness and advocate for modern method of family planning.
He explained the myth, misconception of family planning and types of family planning methods.
Our correspondent reports that while in the training, the participants experience a field trip, visit to Atiku Abubakar Health facilty at Alkalawa Ward, Nasarawo Primary Health Care, Jambutu Primary Health Care all in Yola North Local Government Adamawa State.
Reacheal Michaeal, Director Maternal Child Health Yola North, affirmed that women have now embraced the family planning concept to control child bearing and properly space their children.
She noted that women within the ages of 19 to 35yrs both married and unmarried have now adopted the modern method of family planning considering the economic imbalance in the country.
A focal person family planning, Atiku Abubakar Health facilty, Arziki Buba Daniel said, with more enlightenment women willingly indulge in family planning to avoid any unprepared pregnancy and proper child spacing.
Rashida Aliyu, house wife gave her interesting testimony on the success of family planning, she explained that she is excited she had family planning three years ago.
“I had my child spaced in three years and it was made possible because of family planning, right now my children are well spaced I had enough time to cater for them and I rested properly after giving birth”, she explained.
She advised women to freely adopt family planning for a better family setting, in her words the myth on family planning should be avoided.
She also encouraged women to see a service provider for counseling to get a suitable modern family planning method.
Equipping the journalists,DevComs Training and Advocacy Lead, Onche Odey pointed to the journalists that Family Planning is expedient as he charged journalists to intensify advocacy for Family Planning in the state.
Meanwhile he urges the journalists to tell compelling stories on family planning in order to prevent avoidable deaths of women and children and to also educate the public on proper child birth spacing in Adamawa.
