NLC Shuts Down Government Offices To Enforce Compliance On National Strike In Adamawa

The Federal Secretariat,State Secretariat and commercial banks in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, became a ghost town today Monday the 2nd of June 2024 after officials of the state branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, went out to enforce the nationwide strike.

Public offices and institutions with staff affiliated to the NLC, including banks and government parastatals were similarly shut down and entry barred to staff and members of the public.

An enforcement team from the NLC which comprised members of the state monitoring group had embarked on an enforcement drive, going from office to office to ensure that nobody breaks the law.

The Adamawa State Labour Chairman Emmanuel Fashe represented by the Vice Chairman Usman Babbade noted that the enforcement begins late because of the national position of the  court order.

The enforcement team, led by the acting chairman NLC, Usman Babbada who doubles as the State Chairman of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, visited the State Secretariat, the Federal Secretariat and Yola Specialist Hospital, among other places, where activities were shut down.

To ensure total compliance NLC Adamawa Inaugurates a 3 man committee headed by the state  NUJ Chairman,Ishaka Donald Dedan to ensure total compliance of the people.

While addressing the press,Dedan applauds the poeple for compliaing as he explains his disappoinment on some banks that refuses to complile with the shut down of business activity in the state.

Residents in Yola express concern on the high cost of living, as they appreciate NLC for the solidarity, “According to Emmanuel Dauda the strike is a necessary action and it’s timely as the average Nigeria is struggling to survive.
