The incident occurred in the Jambutu area of Yola, Adamawa State. According to eyewitnesses, Salamatu, consumed by jealousy after learning about her former husband’s impending remarriage, ambushed the bride-to-be during a visit to her fiancé.
Safiya, the victim’s best friend, recounted the ordeal. “We were together earlier that day before she went to see her fiancé. The next morning, I got a call that she had been bathed with hot water,” she said.
In an exclusive interview, the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident.

The victim’s fiancé, 42-year-old Yusuf, said he was unaware of the attack, explaining that he had briefly left to help charge his fiancée’s phone in the neighborhood when the assault happened.
One of the suspects, 23-year-old Fatima Abubakar, a neighbor, denied involvement in the assault. In her statement to the police, Fatima claimed, “I was only asked to escort her to the police station after the incident. I don’t know where she got the hot water from and was not part of the attack. She rushed to me for help after the incident.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have assured the public that justice will be served.
