Student protest erupts at Adamawa State Polytechnic over prolonged Power outage

Tension gripped Adamawa State today as over 200 students of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, including several female students, staged a protest against the institution’s prolonged lack of electricity.
The demonstration, which began peacefully within the campus premises, quickly spilled onto the streets as students, chanting “We want electricity,” marched through surrounding areas.
The situation turned chaotic when some protesters clashed with innocent passersby, prompting urgent intervention by police authorities to restore order.
Students have been grappling with severe hardship for over three months following a disruption in the school’s power supply. Many described the conditions as unbearable, citing the impact on their academic performance and daily lives.
“Our studies are suffering. It’s our right as students to have access to basic amenities like electricity, water, and shelter,” said one protester. “We pay school fees and expect at least these necessities to be provided.”
Another student lamented the harsh conditions, saying, “We can’t study effectively at night, we struggle to sleep due to the intense heat in Yola, and we even have to search for water outside the campus to bathe.”
The protesters called on both the school authorities and the state government to intervene immediately to address the lack of electricity and improve living conditions on campus.
As of press time, there were no official statements from the Adamawa State Polytechnic administration or the state government regarding the students’ demands.
