CLEEN Foundation Launches Four-Day Stakeholders Training on Weapon and Ammunition Management in Adamawa

The CLEEN Foundation, in collaboration with UNDP, the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms, national security agencies, and various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), has commenced a four-day capacity-building and sensitization program focused on weapon and ammunition management in Yola, Adamawa State.
The initiative aims to strengthen stakeholder engagement, encourage community participation, and ensure the sustainability of weapons management efforts in Nigeria’s northern region.
The program also includes a comprehensive awareness campaign involving the production of radio jingles and media content to educate the public on the dangers of unregulated arms and ammunition.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Chigozirim Okoro, Programme Manager at CLEEN Foundation, emphasized the importance of involving all stakeholders in managing the risks associated with small arms, light weapons, and conventional arms.
She encouraged participants to disseminate the knowledge gained during the workshop to their communities, particularly at the grassroots level.
“The solution to insecurity lies in our collective hands,” Okoro stated. “Over the next four days, stakeholders will be equipped with proactive strategies to address insecurity and promote peace within their respective communities.”
A key. highlight of the event was a panel session titled “Small Arms Availability to Non-Formal State Security Actors,” which brought together security personnel and MDA representatives for an in-depth discussion on tackling insecurity.
The session fostered interactive dialogue on practical approaches to reducing the proliferation of arms among non-state actors.
Concluding the discussion, panelists reiterated that security is a shared responsibility. “The security challenges we face in Nigeria can be overcome if all stakeholders work together,” they agreed.
The four-day training, according to her, continues with further sessions aimed at building long-term capacity and fostering regional collaboration on arms control and public safety.
