Customs Intercepts N104m Worth of Contraband in Adamawa, Taraba

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has seized contraband valued at N104.4 million within four weeks.
Items announced to have been seized are 36,835 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in 1,219 jerry cans and 24 drums,101 pieces of raw donkey skin packed in seven sacks, intended for illegal export.
Speaking, the Area Comptroller Garba Bashir, also expressed concern over wildlife trafficking, warning that continued illegal slaughter of donkeys could lead to extinction.
He also expressed sadness at the export of raw hides, which according to him, violates the Common External Tariff (Schedule 6) and Section 150 of the NCS Act, 2023.
He listed the seizure locations to include, Mubi-Sahuda Road, Girei-Wuro Boki axis, Maiha Road, Belel-Farang, Gurin-Fufore axis, Apawa-Jalingo, and Gembu.
Some seized fuel, as announced by him, will be auctioned with proceeds remitted to the Federation Account.
Despite facing harassment and threats, the Customs Command, as emphasized by him, remains committed to enforcing the law.
Bashir urged smugglers to switch to legal businesses and called for public and media support in the anti-smuggling drive.
