TSU Seeks Collaboration with YEDC to Address Power Challenges

Taraba State University (TSU) has called for urgent collaboration with the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) to address the persistent power supply challenges affecting the institution.
The university has been grappling with epileptic electricity, a situation that has forced many students to study under solar-powered lights outside the campus—a growing concern during the ongoing examination period.
In a move to seek a lasting solution, the management of TSU, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of YEDC.
The visit was aimed at fostering a stronger relationship with the distribution company and finding sustainable ways to improve electricity supply to the institution.
Prof. Bako was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Baba Mohammed, and the Director of TSU Table Water and Beverages, Dr. Hanawa Herbert Rufus. During the meeting, the university leadership expressed concern over the severe power shortage on campus.
Among the requests made by the university were:immediate documentation and allocation of a dedicated 24/7 power supply to the university, construction of a 33KV dedicated line to serve both the university and the Taraba State Airport, and collaboration in the installation of solar power infrastructure expected from the federal government.
Responding on behalf of YEDC’s Managing Director, Engr. Abdulrahaman Isa, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Babatunde Ayoola, welcomed the TSU delegation and thanked them for bringing their concerns forward.
Ayoola assured the university of YEDC’s commitment to addressing the power supply challenges and pledged to work closely with TSU to develop a long-term solution.
He also reaffirmed the company’s willingness to build a lasting partnership with both the university and the Taraba State Government.
The outcome of the meeting has raised hopes for improved electricity supply at the university, which could significantly enhance the academic environment for students and staff alike.
