Modibbo Adama University Matriculates 5,297 Students, Warns Against Cultism, Social Vices

Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has officially matriculated 5,297 undergraduate students for the 2024/2025 academic session, urging them to focus on their academic journey and steer clear of cultism, examination malpractice, and other social vices.
The matriculation ceremony, held at the university campus, marked the formal admission of students across various faculties and programmes.
According to figures released by the institution, the breakdown of the newly admitted students includes: College of Medical Sciences – 157; Faculty of Agriculture – 532; Faculty of Education – 514; Faculty of Engineering – 506; Faculty of Environmental Sciences – 371; Faculty of Law – 50; Faculty of Life Sciences – 762; Faculty of Physical Sciences – 642; Faculty of Social and Management Sciences – 915; Centre for Distance Learning – 723; and the Sandwich Degree Programme – 125.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibrahim Umar, congratulated the students and urged them to take full advantage of the academic and social opportunities available to them.
“You are here to shape your future. Use the facilities and resources available to you wisely. Build lasting friendships, but always remember that your primary purpose here is academic excellence,” he said.
Prof. Umar also issued a stern warning to the new students, advising them to stay away from cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, and other forms of social misconduct that could jeopardize their future.
“Cultism and other social vices have no place in this institution. We have zero tolerance for any act that threatens the peace and integrity of the university community,” he emphasized.
He noted that since the institution’s conversion to a conventional university, new programmes such as Law, Nursing, Political Science, and Sociology have been introduced to expand academic offerings and meet national development needs.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated the university’s commitment to providing quality education and a safe environment conducive for learning and personal growth.
