Adamawa Police Probe Two Domestic Homicide Cases in Madagali and Gombi

The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced investigations into two separate domestic violence incidents that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in Madagali and Gombi Local Government Areas.

Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the developments in a statement on Tuesday, describing both cases as tragic outcomes of unresolved family disputes.

The first incident occurred in Pallam District of Madagali LGA, where a physical altercation between two co-wives — Rhoda Anthony, 55, and Victoria Anthony, 36 — turned deadly. During the confrontation, Victoria’s 16-year-old son, Ijai Anthony, reportedly intervened by striking his stepmother, Rhoda, on the head with a piece of wood. The victim was rushed to Cottage Hospital, Madagali, but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment. Both Victoria and her son are currently in protective custody as police continue their investigation.

In a separate case in Fotta District, Gombi LGA, the Command responded to a distress call reporting that Idi Buba had stabbed his father, Buba Jelli, in the neck and back during a domestic dispute. The victim was taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Fotta but died from his injuries. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and the knife used in the attack was recovered as evidence.

Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, condemned the acts, particularly given the familial relationships involved. He urged members of the public to adopt peaceful means of resolving conflicts and avoid resorting to violence.

The Command assured the public that full investigations are underway and that the suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of inquiries.
