Excitement, Awards, and Aspirations as Ahmedu Ribadu College Holds Speech and Prize-Giving Day

It was a day of joy, celebration, and reflection as Ahmedu Ribadu College marked its annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day, with over 50 graduating students formally released to begin a new chapter after six years of secondary education.
The school community gathered in large numbers to witness the colourful event, which was filled with cultural displays, speeches, and award presentations. The ceremony celebrated not only academic excellence but also the institution’s remarkable growth since its establishment in 1994.
Founded with just 10 students, Ahmedu Ribadu College has grown significantly over the past three decades. It now boasts over a thousand pupils and students across its two institutions: Colonel Isah Primary School and the Ahmedu Ribadu College for secondary education.
Speaking during the event, the school principal, Alhaji Mukaila Yakinni, commended the graduating class and encouraged them to brace up for the challenges ahead.
“You’re stepping into a bigger world, and more will be expected of you,” he said. “This school is a preparation ground. We are confident in the kind of students we are producing. Go out there and do exploits.”
He advised the graduates to strive for excellence in higher education and beyond, describing the university as “a wider world” that demands greater commitment and resilience.
The highlight of the day was the recognition of outstanding students. Rabiat Mohammed Umar emerged as the overall best female graduating student, clinching awards in seven subjects. Speaking with reporters, a visibly emotional Rabiat described the honour as the result of hard work and divine grace.
“I’m overwhelmed with joy. It’s a dream come true. I’ve had many sleepless nights, but today, all the effort has been rewarded by God,” she said.
Rabiat paid tribute to her parents, especially her father, Mohammed Sani Umar, whom she described as her “cheerleader and strongest inspiration.”
“Educating a girl is educating a nation,” she added. “No girl should be left behind.”
Other key moments from the event included motivational lectures aimed at preparing students for the next stage of life, cultural performances promoting unity, and the presentation of various academic and leadership awards.
As the graduating students begin a new journey, Ahmedu Ribadu College remains committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders and achievers.
