Oluremi Tinubu Donates ₦500 Million to Flood Victims in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Government has received a ₦500 million donation and assorted relief materials from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to support victims of the recent devastating flood across the state.
The donation, which targets over 1,800 flood-affected households, was presented during a condolence visit on behalf of the First Lady by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima.
Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, received the donation and materials on behalf of the government, expressing deep gratitude for what she described as a timely and compassionate intervention. She assured that the relief items would be distributed fairly and transparently to the intended beneficiaries.
The flood disaster claimed 29 lives, destroyed several homes, and displaced thousands of residents across multiple communities in Adamawa.
Speaking at the event, Nana Shettima explained that the ₦500 million cash support and the accompanying food and non-food items were part of the Renewed Hope Initiative led by Senator Tinubu to cushion the effects of the natural disaster and support ongoing recovery efforts.
Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), Dr. Ubom Udoh, emphasized that the intervention aligns with a shared commitment to restoring hope and improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.
The occasion also marked the launch of a Women Economic Empowerment Programme, in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation. The initiative will provide business recapitalization grants to 500 women across Adamawa State to support small-scale enterprises.
The First Lady’s gesture is part of a broader national effort to mitigate the humanitarian impact of natural disasters and foster inclusive development.
