PCRC Northeast Seeks Collaboration with AIG Zone 3 to Tackle Rising Gender-Based Violence in Adamawa

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Northeast has paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 3, Akinwale Kunle Adediran, to discuss collaborative efforts in combating the rising cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Adamawa State.
The delegation, led by PCRC Northeast Chairperson, Comrade Lucy D. Yohanna, expressed concern over the increasing reports of rape, assault, and other forms of GBV in the state.
She called for the appointment of dedicated GBV desk officers in all divisional police headquarters across Adamawa to ensure swift and professional handling of such cases.
Comrade Yohanna urged women to speak out against abuse and emphasized the importance of community advocacy in breaking the silence surrounding GBV. “Cases of gender-based violence must be reported and addressed promptly,” she stated.
In addition to the GBV campaign, Yohanna highlighted plans to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to educate commercial drivers on the dangers of drug abuse.
She advocated for routine drug testing for drivers, noting that substance abuse contributes significantly to road accidents and criminal behavior.
“The PCRC remains committed to supporting the police in fighting crime and promoting peace and understanding between law enforcement and the public,” she added.
In his response, AIG Akinwale Kunle Adediran commended the PCRC’s efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to combating GBV and all forms of criminality in the zone. He assured the delegation that under his leadership, any individual found guilty of abuse or assault would face the full weight of the law.
“Security is everybody’s business,” AIG Adediran said. “No one will go scot-free if caught violating the rights of others. I urge the youth to stay away from drugs, as drug abuse is a major driver of crime.”
The meeting reinforced the shared commitment of both the police and the PCRC to fostering a safer, more inclusive society. The PCRC reiterated its message that the police are partners in safety and encouraged continued collaboration in securing communities.
“Together we serve, and together we secure our community,” Comrade Yohanna concluded.
