Adamawa ADC Youth,Women Coalition Demands Greater Representation in Party Leadership

The Coalition of All ADC Youth and Women Organizations in Adamawa State has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to ensure greater inclusion of young people and women in its leadership and decision-making structures, insisting their participation must be regarded as a right rather than a privilege.
This demand was made in a communiqué issued on Saturday following a strategic meeting held in Yola, the state capital. The communiqué, presented by the coalition’s chairman, Mohammed All Scams, underscored the urgent need for more representative and inclusive leadership within the party.
“Young people make up about 70% of Nigeria’s population, while women constitute 62%. These groups are the backbone of our democracy and deserve proportional representation in political structures,” the statement read.
The coalition urged the ADC to allocate no less than 50% of elective and leadership positions to youth and women, describing the move as vital for deepening inclusion and enhancing democratic accountability within the party.
In a pointed critique, the group condemned what it described as the troubling trend of appointing older individuals to youth leadership roles. It cited an instance involving another political party in Adamawa State that allegedly named a 50-year-old man as its youth leader.
“The role of youth leader should be reserved strictly for individuals aged 18 to 39, in line with Nigeria’s demographic realities. Anything outside this age range undermines genuine youth representation,” the communiqué stated.
On internal party arrangements, the coalition called on ADC stakeholders to adhere to existing micro-zoning agreements when selecting party officials. In that regard, it recommended Abdurrasheed Adamy Suleiman Khady for the position of State Youth Leader, should the role be zoned to Adamawa Central.
The coalition reaffirmed its loyalty to the ADC at both national and zonal levels, pledging to continue supporting the party’s leadership while working to position it as a formidable opposition force in Nigeria.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from the coalition to champion inclusivity, equity, and democratic values within the party’s framework.
