Brigadier General Agwu Reaffirms Commitment to Human Rights

The Acting Commander of Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai and Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to upholding human rights in the course of its operations.
General Agwu gave the assurance on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Acting State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria (NHRC), Adamawa State Chapter, Mrs. Grace Mamza, to the brigade headquarters.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Commander emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between the military and the NHRC, describing the Commission as a crucial partner in ensuring accountability and professionalism in military operations.
He expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that Sector 4 remains open to constructive feedback and views it as a pathway to strengthening the success of ongoing operations.
“We welcome partnerships that enhance our mission. The National Human Rights Commission plays a vital role in promoting accountability, and we value that. Our doors are always open to engagements that promote mutual respect and the protection of citizens’ rights,” Brigadier General Agwu stated.
In her remarks, Mrs. Mamza commended the openness of Sector 4 and the 23 Brigade, highlighting the continued cooperation between the NHRC and the military.
She clarified that the NHRC’s role is not to antagonize security agencies but to ensure that the rights of all Nigerians are protected, especially during security operations.
“This visit is to strengthen our existing relationship and to formally introduce myself as the Acting State Coordinator. We are here to work with you and support the mission of securing lives while ensuring human rights standards are upheld,” she said.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of a souvenir to Mrs. Mamza by Brigadier General Agwu, and a group photograph to commemorate the event.
