Over 139 million Nigerians face hunger, MOTION Movement Calls on Government for Urgent Action

The Movement for Transformation of Nigeria (MOTION) has taken to the streets of Yola, rallying thousands of youths from various groups to voice their concerns over the escalating hunger and insecurity across the country.
Speaking at the protest, MOTION’s State Coordinator, Andrew Musa, highlighted the dire reality that over 139 million Nigerians are currently hungry. “Many Nigerian children go to bed hungry, and they attend school on empty stomachs,” Musa said, urging the federal government to take immediate and proactive steps to alleviate the crisis.
The movement condemned the ongoing violence and insecurity that have led to the loss of countless young lives, including soldiers and civilians, and called for urgent measures to stop kidnappings and bloodshed that plague the nation.
Several members of the group shared personal testimonies to underscore the severity of the situation. Blessing Musa, a mother, spoke emotionally about her struggle to feed her family despite food being available in the markets.
“Food is cheap, but I cannot afford to buy it. Feeding my children has become a daily challenge. My kids haven’t had three square meals in a very long time,” she said.
Similarly, Biyeya Macbeth recounted coming to the protest without having eaten at home, emphasizing the urgent need for government support for women and children battling poverty and hunger.
The MOTION Movement insists that the government must respond decisively to the growing cries of the Nigerian masses, calling for policies and interventions to eradicate hunger and insecurity in the country.
As youths continue to press their demands on the authorities, all eyes are now on the government to provide the necessary support and relief to millions of Nigerians facing hunger and hardship
