By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Dankombo Morris, on Thursday paid a working visit to Shelleng Local Government Area to assess the security situation following a recent attack on herders and their cattle in Kiri and Wuro Yanka villages. The attack reportedly led to the killing and maiming of several cows by unidentified miscreants.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the visit was part of a renewed action plan by the Command to restore confidence among residents, console victims, and reaffirm its commitment to justice and public safety.

During the visit, CP Morris met with key stakeholders including the First Class Chief of Shelleng, HRH Alhaji Dr. Abdullahi Isa Dasong II (the Amna of Shelleng), the Chairman of Shelleng Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Musa Abba, and other community leaders.

The traditional ruler commended the Police Command for its quick response and deployment of security personnel to the affected areas. He also pledged his full support for the Command’s crime-fighting strategies, noting that Shelleng had enjoyed relative peace before the recent incident.

In his response, Morris reiterated the police command’s determination to ensure that justice is served and peace maintained.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Community Peace, Hon. Ahmed Lawan, expressed sympathy for the victims and assured them of the government’s continued support for security agencies in their peacekeeping efforts.

During the visit, the Commissioner also met directly with the affected herders, inspected the damage caused by the attackers, and urged them to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.

The police spokesperson added that normalcy has since been restored to the area, while discreet investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
