23 Brigade Emerges Winner at 3 Division Corporal and Below Competition

The Nigerian Army has concluded its 2026 3 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition, with 23 Brigade securing first place after a week-long display of skill, endurance, and teamwork.
The competition, designed to enhance leadership qualities, physical fitness, organizational ability, and initiative among soldiers of the rank of Corporal and below, brought together several formations under the 3 Division.
Participating units included 3 Division Garrison, 6 Brigade, 23 Armour Brigade, 33 Artillery Brigade, 43 Engineer Brigade, and 53 Signal Brigade.
Events featured in the competition included combat swimming, map reading, a 10-kilometre combat race, weapon handling, and obstacle crossing. At the end of the contest, the host formation, 23 Brigade, emerged as overall winner, while 3 Division Garrison finished second and 43 Engineer Brigade placed third.
The atmosphere at the closing ceremony was celebratory, as troops proudly displayed their flags in recognition of their performance and unit strength.
The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, congratulated all participants for their resilience and determination throughout the competition. Represented by the Chief of Staff, Chief Amos Edgar, the governor commended the troops for their dedication to maintaining security in the state. He expressed appreciation on behalf of the government and people of Adamawa for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment.
In his remarks, the Acting Commander Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai and Commander 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, highlighted the importance of the competition in strengthening operational readiness within the Army. He presented trophies to the winning teams and souvenirs to distinguished guests.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Acting Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Ephraim Inengim, praised the participants for their discipline, unity, and professionalism. He noted that such exercises remain crucial as formations continue to prioritize training and preparedness in line with global best practices.
This year’s competition, hosted by 23 Brigade, underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to continuous training and capacity building among its personnel.
