NYSC celebrates 50 years anniversary  in Adamawa

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Adamawa on Thursday  celebrated the 50th years of the scheme and Golden Jubilee Award Anniversary.

Mr Jingi Denis, the State Coordinator  said they were celebrating five decades of fostering national unity, integration and development in Nigeria.

According him,the essence of the celebration was to recount the achievements of the scheme over the past 50 years.

The state coordinator assured that the NYSC would continue to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Nigeria in all sectors of the economy and foster national unity.

He commended the NYSC DG, Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, for the arrangements put in place for the celebration of the 50th anniversary.

Delivering his Lecture, Mohammed Umar the Executive Director of Opititum Laboratory an ex-corp member who served in Yola for more than 2 decades now talk on the relevance of NYSC to the peace and unity in Nigeria.

He applauded the scheme for  constantly bringing people from different ethnic group as one Nigeria.

He also recommended that the allowance of the corp members be increase to calm some of their financial needs.

Executive Chairman Shelleng Local Government Area, Musa Abubakar after receiving his award described NYSC Scheme as the best experience he has ever had stating that it has helps to foster peace and unity.

He continued by advising corp members to be ambassadors of peace as they are symbols of this nation.

The NYSC was created on May 22, 1973 as an avenue for the reconciliation, reconstruction, and rebuilding of the nation after the civil war by former president Yakubu Gowan.

The NYSC’s mandate was to ensure unity, eliminate prejudice, and inculcate the spirit of industry among youths, skills acquisition and foster national unity and development.
