Action Health Incorporated Marks 16 days of activism, tackles GBV, early marriage in Adamawa

Action Health Incorporated (AHI), a non-governmental organization, in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has empowered over 300 girls in skills acquisition as part of efforts to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and early marriage.
The initiative was carried out at the Daware Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The call to action was made during an event at the camp, where over 300 youths and traditional leaders gathered to commemorate the 2023 edition of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
Speaking at the event, Program Officer for Action Health Incorporated,
Abubakar Muazu Danbukar, urged stakeholders to unite and intensify efforts to eradicate GBV and early marriage in the state.
He emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing health services, GBV case management, psychosocial counseling, and awareness on sexual and reproductive health rights.
“Our vision is to eliminate GBV in our society and protect the girl child from early and forced marriages, which often result in severe health issues like fistula,” Danbukar said.
Supporting the position of Dwnbukar,
the Women Leader of Daware, Aisha Musa, highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing violence against women and girls.
She called on religious and traditional leaders to spread the message in their various communities.
“Our society can be free from GBV when everyone plays their part,” she said, expressing gratitude to Action Health Incorporated for consistently educating and empowering the community.

Also on his part, the Ardo of Daware, who was represented by Abdulhamid B.K. Iliyas, commended the organization for its impactful work, noting that the community has significantly benefited from its programs.
He encouraged stakeholders to redouble their efforts to eradicate GBV in Daware and across the nooks and crannies of Adamawa State.
One of the beneficiaries, Zainab Tahir, shared her experience, noting that the program has equipped her with skills in personal hygiene and boosted her self-confidence.
“We’ve been taught trades that we can use to build our future. I am grateful because, without this intervention, I might have been forced into early marriage,” she said.
The event, as observed by our reporter, underscored the collective resolve of the community and stakeholders to create a society free from gender based violence and early marriage, with Action Health Incorporated leading the charge.
