NSCDC Honours Officer for Exceptional Honesty, Rewards Him with Promotion

By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has honored one of its personnel, Corps Assistant II (CAII) Abubakar Abdulkadir Mayos, for an extraordinary display of honesty and integrity that has earned him widespread admiration and a well-deserved promotion.

Abubakar Mayos, a staff of the Adamawa State Command, demonstrated exceptional character on Friday when he returned a lost bag containing $500, 300 Saudi Riyals, and valuables amounting to approximately ₦850,000.

The bag belonged to one Maimuna Salihu, an intending pilgrim from Taraba State scheduled to depart for the 2025 Hajj from Yola International Airport.

In recognition of this rare act of integrity, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, Mni, OFR, approved Mayos’ immediate promotion from Corps Assistant II (CAII) to Corps Assistant I (CAI).

During a ceremony held in his honor, Mayos was celebrated for not only his honest deed but for the values he upholds—values that the Corps says are essential in building trust and accountability within society.

“Character speaks louder than words,” the Adamawa State Commandant, Idris Dahiru, stated. “In an age where shortcuts are tempting, CAII Abubakar Abdulkadir Mayos has stood out as a beacon of honesty and sincerity. His decision to return the lost property reinforces the values we aim to instill in all our personnel.”

Dr. Audi emphasized that rewarding honesty is essential for institutional growth and societal trust. “Recognizing and rewarding such integrity sends a strong message not just to our officers, but to the public that we value truth and moral uprightness,” he said.

Responding to the honor, Mayos expressed gratitude to the NSCDC leadership for the recognition and promotion. “Doing good pays,” he said. “I’ll never stop doing the right thing. I urge all Nigerians to always act with integrity, no matter the circumstances.”

Mayos’ story has since inspired many within the Corps and beyond, serving as a reminder of the enduring value of honesty even in challenging times.

The NSCDC continues to promote its core values of discipline, integrity, and patriotism, with leaders like Mayos setting a commendable example for all to follow.
