Nigeria Mourns the Passing of Professor Jibrin Aminu at 85

Nigeria is in mourning following the death of one of its most revered elder statesmen, Professor Jibrin Aminu, who passed away at the age of 85. His death marks the end of a remarkable era of public service and intellectual leadership that spanned decades.
The Government of Adamawa State, under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has expressed deep grief over the loss of the renowned academic, diplomat, and political icon. In a tribute released by his office, Governor Fintiri described Professor Aminu as “a towering figure in Nigeria’s intellectual and political landscape.”
“His death is a tremendous loss not only to Adamawa State but to the entire nation. Nigeria benefited immensely from his wisdom, scholarship, and decades of selfless service,” the Governor stated.
Professor Aminu held several high-ranking positions throughout his distinguished career. He served as Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, and Senator representing Adamawa Central. His legacy is marked by integrity, intellect, and a lifelong dedication to national progress.
“Nigeria has lost one of its finest minds—a devoted public servant and an exemplary son of Adamawa,” Governor Fintiri said. “Professor Jibrin Aminu was a rare patriot and a quiet reformer. His contributions to education, diplomacy, and governance have left an indelible mark on our country.”
The Governor prayed for the late professor, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. He also extended heartfelt condolences to Professor Aminu’s family, associates, and all Nigerians who were impacted by his life and work.
“Though his passing leaves a profound void, his legacy will continue to inspire generations,” Governor Fintiri added.
