Adamawa Police Arrest 39-Year-Old Suspect Over Alleged Trafficking of Girls to Ghana

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, identified as Hamza Hammantukur Isa, a resident of Bauchi Street, Yola North Local Government Area. The suspect alledgedly specializes in trafficking young girls from Adamawa State to Lagos, where they were subsequently handed over to another agent and transported to Ghana Republic of Ghana for Sexual exploitation using false promises of well-paying.
In an exclusive interview with our reporter in Yola on Tuesday, the command said the suspect confessed to serving as a transporter within a broader trafficking network for several years. Hamza reportedly collaborated with two women, known as Happy and Elizabeth, who were said to be responsible for supplying the girls.
<span;>According to police accounts, admitted that his role involved moving the victims from Yola to Lagos before transferring them to another trafficker who would facilitate their journey to Ghana. “Happy once introduced me to the woman who collects the girls in Lagos and takes them to Ghana, but I don’t have direct contact with her,” he allegedly told investigators.
The suspect disclosed that he earned ₦50,000 for each girl he transported, with victims ranging from 14 to 30 years old. He claimed he had paused the activity after losing his job and vehicles but returned to trafficking “out of frustration.” He expressed remorse during interrogation, noting that he is a father of three and would not wish such a fate on his own daughter.
Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed the arrest, stating that officers acted promptly after receiving a tip-off from parents of two girls being moved out of the state. The girls were intercepted on their way to Lagos.
Nguroje revealed that Hamza had provided extensive information about the trafficking network and admitted he could no longer recall how many girls he had transported over the years. He further confirmed that the rescued victims, aged between 14 and 21, were minors being trafficked out of Nigeria.
The police spokesperson urged parents and guardians to remain alert and safeguard their children, particularly young girls, from falling victim to traffickers. He also called on the public to report any suspicious activity, stressing that timely information is critical to preventing such crimes.
