NAWOJ Adamawa Marks International Women’s Day, Calls for Greater Opportunities for Women

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Adamawa State Chapter, has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day 2026, urging governments and stakeholders to create more opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to national development.
In a press statement issued on Sunday in Yola, the association said this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” underscores the importance of investing in women and ensuring they have access to opportunities that will enable them to positively impact society.
The statement, signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ in Adamawa State, Comrade Felicia Amos Dauda, and the Secretary, Comrade Gloria Abutu, noted that supporting women through inclusive policies, equal opportunities and representation in decision-making positions would lead to stronger institutions, sustainable development and balanced governance.
According to the association, despite the vital role women play in building communities and strengthening democracy, their representation in political leadership and governance remains significantly low.
NAWOJ Adamawa stressed that the situation highlights the need for deliberate actions and supportive legislation that will create pathways for greater inclusion of women in leadership and governance.
The association also celebrated the resilience and achievements of women across Adamawa State and Nigeria who continue to make significant contributions in various sectors despite existing challenges.
“As women journalists, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting responsible journalism that amplifies the voices of women and girls, advocates gender equality and supports policies that advance national development,” the statement said.
The association called on government institutions, policymakers, civil society organisations and community leaders to intensify efforts toward empowering women and ensuring their meaningful participation in all spheres of life.
NAWOJ Adamawa added that providing opportunities, support and recognition to women would help build a more inclusive, prosperous and equitable society.
The association also extended its goodwill to women across the state and the country on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
