Army Commander Reaffirms Commitment to Corps Members’ Welfare in Yola

The Acting Commander, Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai and Commander of 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and residents of Gibson Jalo Cantonment in Yola, Adamawa State.
Agwu made the pledge during the commissioning of a newly renovated Corps members’ lodge within the cantonment.
He stated that the renovation aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient force capable of effectively carrying out its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.
According to him, providing conducive accommodation for Corps members would significantly enhance the quality of education in the barracks, where many of them teach children of military personnel in cantonment schools.
The commander urged the Corps members to ensure proper maintenance of the facility, while assuring them of more impactful projects aimed at improving living conditions within the barracks community.
Agwu also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for continued support to the Sector and Brigade, noting that such backing has boosted the morale and fighting spirit of troops.
In his remarks, the Corps Liaison Officer, Mr. Nansel Vangvang, a beneficiary of the project, commended the commander’s commitment to the welfare of Corps members.
He described the renovation as not only an infrastructural upgrade but also a demonstration of care, compassion, and respect for Corps members.
The lodge, which comprises 20 rooms, was rebuilt after it was destroyed by a whirlwind in 2025, forcing Corps members to vacate the facility.
