Family Planning Media Team Reviews Activities, Plans Future as Project In Adamawa

In a bid to sustain the progress made in family planning advocacy, the Adamawa State Family Planning Media Advocacy Team, in partnership with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and Development Communications Network (DEVCOMS), held a review meeting in Yola to assess the project’s achievements and chart a course for future sustainability.

The event, which took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, brought together media professionals, development partners, and officials from the NUJ Adamawa State Council.

The meeting focused on evaluating the advocacy efforts so far, celebrating milestones, and preparing for the eventual exit of the project from the state.

Chairperson of the Media Advocacy Group, Samamo Dedan, commended members for their dedication and urged continued commitment to public sensitization on the health and reproductive rights benefits of family planning.

She expressed appreciation for the NUJ’s consistent support and emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration with the council to maintain the momentum of advocacy efforts.

Speaking at the meeting, NUJ Adamawa State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, lauded TCI and DEVCOMS for initiating a project that has contributed significantly to improving women’s reproductive health. He described the family planning advocacy as a vital tool in reducing maternal mortality in the state.

As the project phases out, the media team announced plans to formalize the group’s structure by registering it with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Other components of the exit strategy include documenting success stories and integrating family planning content into routine media programming across the state.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to ensuring the sustainability of family planning awareness and services in Adamawa State beyond the lifespan of the current project.
