NUJ President Applauds Gov. Fintiri as Adamawa Hosts North-East Zonal Meeting

The Adamawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has hosted a two-day North-East zonal meeting focused on strengthening the role and safety of journalists ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As part of the visit, delegates embarked on an extensive tour of key infrastructural projects executed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration.
The first inspection took the team to the ongoing construction of the state shopping complex, where the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. (Dr.) Ishaya Dabari, briefed journalists on the project’s structural quality and its anticipated economic impact.
iThe delegation also inspected major road developments under the Ministry of Works and Energy Development, led by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Mohammed Suleiman. He highlighted the recently completed flyovers, underpasses, and the expansion of Galadima Aminu Way, noting that the projects are aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing travel time, and enhancing road safety. He added that additional pedestrian flyovers would be built at strategic locations.
During a visit to the 7.5-kilometre stormwater drainage project near Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School, Engr. Suleiman explained that the facility has been instrumental in channelling large volumes of water from Saminaka and neighbouring areas, effectively ending years of persistent flooding.
He further described the 20.8-kilometre Adamawa Super Highway as a transformative initiative expected to accelerate the development of the state capital. The highway links the A.A. Lawal Junction Flyover in Jimeta and includes a half-cloverleaf interchange at the Numan–Yola Federal Highway.
Suleiman noted that several completed and ongoing projects are spread across all 21 local government areas. He added that the state government has also intervened on federal roads, constructing five major bridges along the Mubi–Michika–Madagali corridor, including a 13-span structure, and awarding the construction of the 24.1-kilometre federal road from Mubi to Maiha.
Responding after the tour, NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, expressed satisfaction with the scale and quality of infrastructure delivered by the Fintiri administration. He said the progress recorded justifies a future tour with journalists from southern and eastern Nigeria.
He particularly commended Governor Fintiri’s commitment to grassroots development, citing the intervention in the low-income Saminaka community as a noteworthy example.
The NUJ President was accompanied by the union’s Vice President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, and the chairmen and secretaries of the NUJ councils from Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, and Taraba states.
