NEDC Commissions Reconstructed Schools, Roads, Health Facilities in Adamawa
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commissioned and inspected a series of completed and ongoing projects across Adamawa State, spanning education, healthcare, and road infrastructure.
The three-day inspection and commissioning tour covered several local government areas, including Guyuk, Yola South, Mayo-Belwa, Hong, Fufore, Gombi, Mubi, and Madagali.
Education Projects
In Guyuk Local Government Area, the Commission commissioned the NEDC Mega School in Guyuk. The facility comprises four blocks of 12 classrooms, four units of two-bedroom staff quarters, an administrative block, a clinic block, a commercial centre, a generator room with generator, and a borehole to provide water supply.
Also in Guyuk, the Commission carried out a general renovation of the Skill Acquisition Centre.
In Mayo-Belwa LGA, NEDC constructed a new school and a Skill Acquisition Centre, alongside general renovation works. Similar renovation projects were also executed in Gombi LGA.
At the College of Education in Hong LGA, the Commission constructed a new college gate, two security rooms, and a 200-metre perimeter fence.
<span;>Health Sector Interventions
In Yola South LGA, the School of Nursing and Midwifery underwent renovation and a water scheme upgrade.
At the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, NEDC constructed and furnished an MRI block, which is now ready and awaiting installation of the MRI machine. An Accident and Emergency unit was also constructed at the hospital.
In Uba town, Hong LGA, the Commission upgraded the Primary Health Care Centre with the construction of a new 10-bed ward, two units of one-bedroom staff quarters, renovation of existing staff quarters, renovation of the General Outpatient Department (GOPD), ward, laboratory and store. Other additions include a perimeter fence and gate, a solar-powered borehole, installation of a solar power system, and two units of VIP toilets.
Road and Bridge Projects
In Gombi LGA, NEDC constructed a 1.5-kilometre road at Mbewa, Garkida, featuring a 40mm asphaltic wearing course and a five-cell 3m x 3.5m box culvert..
The Commission also completed the reconstruction of the 2.5-kilometre Garkida-Cross Road in Gombi LGA. The project, handled by G & G Construction Company Ltd, was awarded in September 2024 and completed in September 2025, achieving 100 percent completion.
In Fufore LGA, construction is ongoing on a 10-kilometre road linking Fufore to Ribadu town. The project, awarded to Hydrosource and Resource Nigeria Ltd on May 22, 2025, is scheduled for completion in May 2026 and is currently 65 percent complete.
In Madagali LGA, the Commission is reconstructing collapsed bridges at Dilichim and Tashan Tsamiya, each consisting of six spans of 15 metres.
Along the Mubi–Maiha Road, construction of a five-span, 75-metre bridge at Chainage 26+400 is ongoing. The project, awarded to Triacta Nigeria Ltd on September 16, 2025, is 85 percent complete and is expected to be delivered by January 16, 2026.
Additionally, NEDC has commenced the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Numan Bridge and construction of a three-span Bole Bridge in Yola South LGA. The project, also awarded to Triacta Nigeria Ltd in September 2025, is currently at five percent completion and is scheduled for completion in September 2026.
Stakeholders React
Chairman of the NEDC Board, Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd), expressed satisfaction with the projects, particularly the reconstruction of the school in Garkida that was previously destroyed by insurgents. He noted that the rebuilt school would be renamed in honour of its pioneer teachers.
Representing Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, the State Head of Service commended the NEDC for executing impactful projects across the state..
Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, described the projects as timely and strategic, noting that Adamawa occupies a critical position in the Commission’s development plan. He emphasized the importance of upgrading infrastructure to support long-term growth.
The Minister of State for Regional Development Uba Maigari Ahmadu also lauded Governor Fintiri for ongoing development efforts in the state, stating that Adamawa is steadily emerging as a hub for major infrastructure, with more road projects underway through the NEDC
