Vunobolki Resigns from APC, Cites Concerns Over Internal Democracy

A prominent political figure in Adamawa State, Maurice Vunobolki, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising concerns about transparency, fairness, and internal democracy within the party.
Vunobolki, a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the APC, announced his resignation during a press briefing, stating that the decision took immediate effect from Monday, April 13, 2026. He attributed his exit to what he described as recent developments that contradict earlier assurances of equity and a level playing field.
The politician noted that he joined the APC on February 23, 2026, alongside supporters across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He explained that his decision at the time was based on trust and assurances linked to the state’s political leadership, including Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
However, Vunobolki alleged that recent actions within both the party and the state government had undermined those assurances. He claimed that a committee established to design the framework for ongoing party congresses was dominated by aspirants favoured by the government, leading to what he described as manipulation of the process.
He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in party membership registration, including claims that individuals’ National Identification Numbers were used without their consent to inflate voting strength in certain areas, particularly Yola North.
Vunobolki further referenced his experience during the 2019 APC primaries, where he said he purchased nomination forms worth N20 million to contest for the Adamawa South Senatorial seat but was sidelined following the alleged imposition of automatic tickets for incumbent lawmakers.
Describing the current political climate as a continuation of past patterns, he warned against what he termed a growing culture of imposition over democratic choice.
Following what he described as extensive consultations with stakeholders, Vunobolki said his decision to leave the APC was aimed at seeking a more credible political platform that guarantees fairness and equal opportunity. He also called on his supporters across the state to withdraw from the party and await further directives.
Despite his resignation, he reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, stressing that political power should reflect the will of the people rather than be determined through manipulation. He urged supporters and political aspirants to remain united and hopeful, adding that a new political direction would be announced soon.
