Live What You Believe Project Empowers 120 Students for FORB in Adamawa
No fewer than one hundred and twenty students from Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola (SPY) have been empowered through the Live What You Believe Project, an initiative by Empower Women Media in Yola, Adamawa State.
The project aligns with Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which affirms that “everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion; this right includes the freedom to change one’s religion or belief, and the freedom to practice it.”
The Live What You Believe Project organized a one-day workshop aimed at promoting peace, unity, and tolerance in society, advocating that these values can be achieved through Freedom of Religion and Belief (FORB).
Tanimo Leneke, the workshop convener, urged the students to invest in peacebuilding, foster tolerance, and promote peaceful coexistence.
She emphasized that religion should never divide love and togetherness, calling on the students to live peacefully, regardless of their religious differences.
Leneke also expressed her gratitude to the students for their strong turnout, reminding them that they are human beings first, before any religious identity.
Imam Muhammed Musa, Peace Ambassador for COFP, also addressed the students,stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence.
He highlighted that Islam is a religion of peace, and therefore peace should be a non-negotiable part of their interactions.
Rev. Victor Saje, Adamawa State Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), spoke to the students about the dangers of religious discrimination,calling it a sign of ignorance.
He advised them to embrace peaceful coexistence and see one another as equals, irrespective of religious affiliation.
Mighty Aderemi, a Mass Communication student at SPY, expressed her gratitude to Empower Women Media for the Live What You Believe Project.
She noted that the project came at the right time,transforming her mindset and helping her appreciate that diversity is the beauty of life.
She also emphasized the importance of pursuing religious freedom and peace, especially for the youth.
