Fintiri Emerges APC Leader in Adamawa After Defection

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been named leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State following his formal defection to the ruling party.
The declaration was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a grand reception organised to welcome the governor into the APC. Shettima said the decision reflects the party’s leadership structure across the country, where sitting governors take charge of party affairs in their respective states.
The vice president commended Fintiri’s record in office, highlighting his infrastructural development and public works initiatives as key achievements that justify his inclusion in the party.
“Governor Fintiri has demonstrated capacity and commitment to governance. His achievements in infrastructure and public service delivery speak volumes,” Shettima said.
In his remarks, Fintiri thanked the party leadership for the recognition and pledged his commitment to the APC.
He said his priority would be to secure victory for the party in Adamawa State in the 2027 general elections.
“It is time for the South, and I will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, described the APC as the largest political party in Nigeria, noting that Fintiri’s defection would further strengthen its base.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda also congratulated the governor, expressing confidence that his entry into the party would boost its chances in Adamawa and beyond.
