NSE Unveils Calendar, Honours Three Engineers at Yola Awards Night

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Yola Branch, on Saturday held its Dinner and Awards Night, during which it unveiled its 2026/2027 programme calendar and honoured three distinguished professionals for their contributions to the engineering field.
The event brought together leading engineers, government officials, and stakeholders, highlighting the role of engineering in national development and professional collaboration.
Among those honoured were Diaulhaq Abubakar, a gubernatorial aspirant in Adamawa State and traditional title holder of Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta; Saidu M. Njidda; and Audu Ayuba Tanko, who all received NSE merit awards in recognition of their service and impact.
Delivering the keynote address, the National President of the NSE, Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, represented by Abubakar Usman, commended the Yola Branch for its vibrancy and strong commitment to advancing the engineering profession.
He described the branch as well-organized, noting that the financial and moral contributions of its members reflect the unity and strength necessary for professional growth. According to him, such collective sacrifices are essential for the sustainability and progress of any organization.
Rabiu added that the Dinner and Awards Night serves as a platform to foster unity among engineers and strengthen collaboration with other professional bodies. He congratulated the awardees, urging them to see the recognition not only as a reward for past achievements but also as motivation for greater service to the nation.
The event also featured a technical presentation by the Federal Controller of Works, Dimas Tuwai, who spoke on “Variation of Price (VOP) of Materials in Highway Construction.”
Tuwai highlighted the complexities of cost fluctuations in construction projects, particularly in long-term highway developments, stressing that price variation is as critical as project execution itself.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Diaulhaq Abubakar expressed appreciation to the NSE for the honour, describing it as a rare recognition that would inspire greater dedication to service.
He emphasized that engineers are trained problem-solvers whose contributions often go unnoticed despite their central role in development. He called on government and the public to accord engineers greater recognition, noting that such support would encourage innovation and commitment within the profession.
Describing the award as both an honour and a responsibility, he pledged to continue contributing meaningfully to society, dedicating the recognition to fellow engineers and aspiring professionals.
