Adamawa police inuagurates VCRU to tackle rising crimes

The Adamawa State Police Command has inaugurated a Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) aimed at tackling emerging security threats and reducing crime across the state.

The unit was established to combat kidnapping, “Shila” gangsterism, terrorism, armed robbery, cult-related offences and other violent crimes threatening public safety in Adamawa.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening security in the state.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Ahmed Lawan, the governor assured the police command of the state government’s continued support and cooperation to enable it effectively fight crime and maintain peace.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, emphasized the importance of the task force initiative introduced by the Inspector General of Police to counter insurgency and combat criminal activities nationwide.

Hassan explained that the VCRU was created to respond swiftly to criminal threats while ensuring that all operations are conducted within the confines of the law. He noted that key stakeholders were invited to witness the inauguration to guarantee transparency and ensure that the activities of the task force do not infringe on the rights and liberties of citizens.

According to him, officers selected for the unit have undergone advanced training and are expected to deliver results professionally and within the legal framework.

The police commissioner also appreciated Governor Fintiri for his consistent support to the command, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining the fight against crime and criminality in Adamawa State.

Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of the Chief Judge, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Lamido of Adamawa and other stakeholders, who applauded the Inspector General of Police for the initiative and commended the Adamawa State Police Command for inaugurating the unit.
