AIG Akinwale charges Taraba Police Command on professionalism, intelligence-led policing

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 3 Police Headquarters, Yola, AIG Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, has urged officers and men of the Taraba State Police Command to deepen their commitment to professionalism, discipline, and intelligence-led policing in the discharge of their duties.
The charge was delivered on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, during a familiarization tour and lecture held in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The engagement focused on strengthening operational effectiveness through improved intelligence gathering, community policing, capacity building, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
AIG Adeniran said the evolving security landscape in Nigeria demands a highly trained, disciplined, and intelligence-driven police force capable of responding swiftly to emerging threats. He stressed that professionalism, integrity, and adherence to human rights remain central to effective policing and public trust.
He further emphasized intelligence-led policing and urged officers to strengthen collaboration with communities, enhance visibility policing, and ensure rapid response to distress calls. According to him, security remains a shared responsibility requiring cooperation between the police, other security agencies, and the public.
The AIG also drew attention to public health security concerns, including preparedness for Ebola and other communicable diseases, noting that officers must remain vigilant, recognize symptoms early, and maintain close coordination with health authorities, especially given Taraba State’s strategic border location.
On discipline, he described it as the foundation of policing, warning officers against misconduct and corruption while urging strict adherence to lawful orders, proper conduct, and the chain of command.
Adeniran also highlighted the importance of community intelligence gathering, calling for stronger partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to improve crime prevention and detection efforts. He stressed the protection of informants and the need to encourage information sharing.
Reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the Safe School Initiative, he directed officers to intensify security surveillance around schools, strengthen emergency response systems, and maintain close liaison with school authorities to safeguard students and educational infrastructure.
He further called for continuous training and retraining of personnel in firearms handling, tactical operations, patrol duties, and public order management, noting that regular capacity building enhances professionalism, accountability, and operational readiness.
AIG Adeniran expressed confidence that with discipline, teamwork, and adherence to best policing practices, the command would continue to improve security outcomes and strengthen public confidence across Taraba State.
The visit was concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment by officers of the command to support the vision of the Nigeria Police Force and enhance peace and stability in the region, including in Yola and surrounding areas.
