Adamawa NUJ Correspondents Begin 2026 Correspondents’ Day Celebration

Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, have commenced activities marking the 2026 Correspondents’ Day, a two-day event aimed at celebrating achievements in journalism and reflecting on the profession’s impact on society.
The event, scheduled for April 15 to 16, was formally announced during a press conference held on April 14, 2026, where the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Comrade Umar Dankano, described the occasion as both significant and memorable for media practitioners in the state.
Dankano explained that the celebration would highlight the progress made by the chapel under the leadership of Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Kado, who recently marked one year in office.
He noted that Correspondents’ Day provides journalists an opportunity to assess their contributions to public discourse, accountability, and community development.
“Correspondents’ Day offers us a moment to pause and reflect. It is a time to assess our contributions as journalists—how we have shaped public discourse, promoted accountability, and supported the well-being of the communities we serve,” he said.
He emphasized that journalism remains a demanding profession requiring dedication and resilience, as practitioners continue to inform, educate, and enlighten the public.
Describing the chapel as a “microcosm of Nigeria,” Dankano stressed its role in agenda-setting and holding public office holders accountable, in line with constitutional provisions.
A series of activities have been lined up to mark the celebration. These include a training workshop for 100 journalists focused on election reporting ahead of the 2027 general elections, as well as a medical outreach programme offering free health screenings for conditions such as hypertension, Hepatitis, and HIV.
Other highlights include a novelty football match between members of the executive and legislative arms of government, aimed at strengthening collaboration, and an awards ceremony recognising outstanding journalists for excellence, discipline, and professionalism.
Dankano commended members of the organising committee for their efforts and expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support. He also called on individuals and organisations to participate actively in the event.
“As journalists, we must continue to uphold the ideals of our profession.
Together, we can contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our society,” he added.
The 2026 Correspondents’ Day is expected to showcase the critical role of journalism in promoting peace, accountability, and sustainable development.
